Recently, the 78-year-old Mr. McMahon announced his resignation as the head of TKO, the parent company of WWE, vehemently denying the allegations.
“I firmly stand against Ms. Grant’s legal action, believing it’s filled with false stories, made-up situations, and a vengeful distortion of the truth,” stated Mr. McMahon emphatically last Friday.
He added, “Out of respect for the WWE Universe, the remarkable TKO enterprise, its board members, shareholders, colleagues, and all the dedicated employees and Superstars who contributed to WWE’s global success, I’ve decided to step down from my role as executive chairman and the TKO board of directors, effective immediately.”
According to an internal communication at ESPN, Nick Khan, the president of WWE, confirmed, “Vince McMahon has resigned from his positions as TKO Executive Chairman and the TKO Board of Directors.”
The memo clarified that McMahon would no longer hold any position within TKO Group holdings or WWE.
Ms. Grant, a former WWE employee, alleges that both McMahon and Laurinaitis used her in sexual exploitation to entice well-known wrestling figures. Attempts to get comments from Mr. Laurinaitis by the BBC were unsuccessful.
At the time of her encounters with Mr. McMahon, Ms. Grant was unemployed and dealing with the financial aftermath of her deceased parent’s bankruptcy.
The legal claim states that McMahon coerced her into a physical relationship, promising her a job at WWE.
As per the legal narrative, Ms. Grant worked at WWE’s headquarters in Connecticut from 2019 to 2022. She described feeling trapped, “yielding to Mr. McMahon’s sexual demands or facing ruin.”
The lawsuit further claims that McMahon “expected and directed Ms. Grant to engage in sexual activity at the WWE headquarters, even during official working hours.”
Ms. Grant also accused both defendants of sexual assault at WWE headquarters in Connecticut in June 2021.
In 2022, WWE’s board investigated a reported $3 million settlement between McMahon and a former employee with whom he had a consensual affair. The 78-year-old stepped down from his roles as acting chief executive and chairperson, replaced by his daughter. However, in January 2023, he resumed his position as WWE chairperson after the investigation concluded.
In her recent legal filing, Ms. Grant criticized WWE’s special committee investigation as “a sham,” accusing the company of trying to “sweep the matter under the rug.” She claimed that the committee never contacted her or requested relevant documents.
Throughout his time in charge, Mr. McMahon guided WWE’s growth into a media giant, broadcasting weekly content in over 180 countries and 30 languages.
