Opinion: COVID Remains Present and Contagious
Just when I thought I was in the clear, COVID-19 pulled me back in! This famous line from “The Godfather: Part III” feels like my life story last week. Tested positive, and my hopes of being done with the virus vanished. A simple sore throat turned into congestion and a nagging cough. Found out on January 15, and remote work became my reality for the week. Opinion: COVID Remains Present and Contagious…

Turns out, I’m not alone in this struggle. Many in my circle got hit too.
Luckily, this round of symptoms was mild. No fever and the cough eased with medication in a couple of days.
News reports talk about a surge in COVID cases in South Carolina nursing homes, along with flu and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). They’re calling it a “tripledemic” of respiratory viruses.
Despite getting my flu shot and the latest COVID booster in October, and trying to stay safe, I still caught it.
The annoying part? Masks are back. The CDC recommends a 10-day mask mandate, matching my return to the workplace.
So, Sunday night, I dug out my fabric masks. Had favorites, of course. No to the disposable ones my wife got.
Wearing a mask brought concerned looks to the store. Answered questions about my health, trying to reassure everyone.Wearing glasses? Fogging up was a hassle. Luckily, I spent most of my time in my office, away from colleagues.
Overall, being sidelined with COVID wasn’t too bad. Couldn’t golf due to the weather, and my usual course was closed. Evenings were for catching up on TV and movies.

Though I haven’t watched “The Godfather: Part III” yet, it’s on my DVR, waiting for its turn. The first two movies are my favorites, and any chance to watch them is a treat.
As for COVID, I hope to dodge it in the future. Maybe it’ll end up like the fish, but I know it’s just business, not personal.
In the words of James Caan’s Sonny Corleone: “Bada bing, bada boom.”Thanks for reading.
