Lidl GB Boosts Pay for 26,000 Hourly Workers

Starting March 1st, supermarket chain Lidl GB is giving a pay raise to its 26,000 hourly employees, investing a total of £37 million in their salaries. For those outside the M25, the starting pay is going up from £11.40 to £12, reaching £13 with more experience. If you work within the M25, your pay will increase from £12.85 to £13.55, eventually hitting £13.85.

According to Lidl, the new starting pay will be 17% higher than the upcoming national minimum wage of £11.44 in April. This marks an overall investment of nearly £60 million in employee wages over the last year. Lidl is also introducing a £2 per hour premium for bank holidays and increasing the nightshift premium to £3.50 per hour, extending its application by one hour.

Lidl GB’s CEO, Ryan McDonnell, expressed gratitude to employees for their dedication and emphasized the importance of investing in the workforce as the company expands its market share and makes quality, value-centric products accessible to more households.

Stephanie Rogers, Chief Human Resources Officer at Lidl GB, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing competitive compensation and creating an excellent work environment. She noted that this approach has been integral to their strategy for almost three decades, ensuring that employees receive the highest pay rates in the sector.

In addition to the salary adjustments, Lidl GB is offering a 10% employee discount, valued up to £600 per individual, totaling an annual investment of approximately £20 million. Other benefits include 28 weeks of maternity and adoption pay, paid leave for fertility treatment and pregnancy loss, increased vacation entitlement, life assurance, and voluntary health and dental insurance.
