League 42, a non-profit supporting affordable baseball registration for kids, had raised $50,000 for the statue. The league is named after Robinson’s jersey number and honors the legendary athlete who broke racial barriers in Major League Baseball.

The police are investigating the theft and arson. On Monday, they found a truck believed to be connected to the crime. Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan mentioned that there will be an arrest, but they want to ensure a solid case first.

The statue was meaningful to the community, symbolizing hope, according to Wichita City Council member Brandon Johnson. He expressed sadness about the discovery of the damaged statue but emphasized the community’s determination to rebuild and restore it for League 42 and the youth, reassuring that the symbol of hope will return soon.

League 42 is moving forward with creating a duplicate of the late James Parsons’ statue, using the same material, according to director Bob Lutz’s announcement at a recent press conference.

Luckily, the mold from Parsons’ original work is still in good shape. The statue that will be placed in McAdams Park will be the creation of John Parsons, as confirmed by Lutz.

A GoFundMe organized by Lutz has so far raised over $19,000 to replace the statue.
