Before the assault, Redden’s lawyer had requested probation for their client due to Redden’s diagnosed mental health conditions—schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Redden also mentioned having recently secured a job and pleaded with the judge for “a chance.”

However, the judge brought attention to Redden’s extensive criminal record, which included previous convictions for domestic violence and burglary, as reported by the local TV channel KSNV.

The attack left the judge with minor injuries, while an officer intervening in the situation was also hurt and had to be taken to the hospital. Fortunately, the officer’s condition is now stable. The prosecutor had initially sought a sentence ranging from 19 to 48 months in prison for Redden’s attempted assault charge.

This unexpected and violent episode in the courtroom was a distressing moment, highlighting the risks and complexities faced within the judicial system.
